We offer Flexinol wire, which is a trademark for trained nitinol actuator wire in a variety of diameters, from .001 to .015. Flexinol wire is also is available cut to length and precrimped, see below. We offer low temperture (LT) activation (contraction) 70 centigrade and high temperature (HT) activation (contraction)90 centigrade, wires.

Flexinol is a shape memory alloy (nitinol) actuator wires. Made of nickel-titanium (Nitinol) these small diameter wires contract (typically 2% to 5% of their length) like muscles when electrically driven or heated. This ability to flex or shorten is a characteristic of certain alloys which, dynamically change their internal structure at certain temperatures.

Flexinol Wire properties
To activate Flexinol wire it is heated above its transition temperature (typically 70C). An electric current may be passed through the wire to heat it electrically. The contraction movement may be applied to any task requiring physical movement with low to moderate cycling speeds. The small size, light weight, ease of use and silent operation allow it to replace small motors or solenoids.
When the material cools (or when it is allowed to cool) it can be stretched back it its original length for subsequent contractions.

Manual valve control

A competent diagnostician would be able to determine if the wiring to the valves is good (a gopher can chew the wire and ruin your day). If one of the wires (say the common) is chuffed, but you have multi-conductor and another wire is available, proper marking (coloured shrink tubing rocks for this), and you can swap to another wire.
In the meantime, if your irrigation valves have manual actuators on them, you should be able to flip them on manually so that plants still get watered - you just have to remember to turn them off too.
I just re-plumbed the 1/2" dripline supply run for a row of rose bushes in front of my house (was easier to pull out all of the original dripline when I went to do a wood-chip project, rather than to work around the dripline), but I had the...
